The 3-night-minimum trap
The most misleading phrase in Tuscan venue marketing is "from €X per night." Many estates require a multi-night booking — commonly three nights in high season — so the real venue cost is the nightly rate times the minimum, plus VAT. Worked example from published rates: Villa Mangiacane at €30,800 per night in high season with a 3-night minimum is €92,400 before VAT and before a single plate of food. The per-night number in the brochure is a third of the truth. Always ask: minimum nights, compulsory accommodation buyout, and whether the quote is pre-VAT.
What a full wedding actually totals — per-guest math
Three honest bands: Lean = agriturismo tier, restrained production; Mid = private villa with standard catering; High = castle/borgo estates and full production. All bands include venue, catering and the usual fixed costs (photography, flowers, music, ceremony).

Notice the per-guest cost falls as the guest count rises: the venue is a fixed cost, so 100 guests at a €20,000 villa carry €200 each of venue, while 20 guests carry €1,000 each. This is why the widely-quoted "€800–€1,200 per guest" planner averages mislead small weddings and flatter big ones — they're top-down averages, not math built from venue rates.
The costs nobody quotes upfront
VAT: 22% standard IVA, 10% on some catering and historic-residence rentals — and quotes are often pre-VAT. Ceremony: a town-hall civil ceremony costs €100–€500; an off-site celebrant-led civil ceremony €1,000–€2,500. Music licence: Italy's SIAE fee applies to amplified music at private events — small, but it appears on real invoices.
